Creating a coastal modeling network in East Africa through a mailing list

During workshops in the East African region in 2006 and early 2007, arranged by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), developing coastal modeling capabilities was named one of the priorities of East African oceanographic institutes. Because of this priority, Gabriela Mayorga Adame, a coastal modeler of Theiss Research, is visiting the Institute of Marine Sciences (IMS) in Zanzibar from April 17 to July 22 to assist IMS in developing coastal modeling capabilities. She is currently setting up the coastal models ROMS and ADCIRC and training four IMS researchers on how to use these models.

A mailing list has been set up in order to provide a forum for all those interested in coastal modeling in the East African region. It is hoped that this will bring together those working on coastal modeling at IMS with those at other oceanographic institutes in the region as well as coastal modeling experts in the rest of the world interested in the East African coast. Everyone is encouraged to subscribe to the mailing list. Unsubscribing is possible at any time. Here are the details:
